Mechanical Engineer · M.Eng. · Bremen/Nienburg, Germany

I design, test and analyse mechanical systems.

From roller brake test rigs in Nigeria to vibration-based lifetime estimation of CNC toolholders in Germany. Design, FEM, fatigue and measurement, with the data to back up each decision.

Vibration-based lifetime estimation of CNC toolholders

  • PSD
  • Dirlik method
  • NI-DAQ
  • LabVIEW
  • Python
  • 3-axis accelerometers

Thesis at ESA Eppinger GmbH, a toolholder manufacturer near Stuttgart. I estimated toolholder fatigue life from measured vibration in the frequency domain.

Problem

Acoustic end-of-line checks catch defects late and say nothing about remaining life.

What I did

Designed and built the test setup, recorded 3-axis vibration under operating conditions, and built the PSD-to-damage workflow.

Result

Anomalies and defects were detected more reliably than with conventional acoustic testing.

Industry · Test rig design & commissioning

Roller brake test rigs for vehicle inspection centres

  • Autodesk Inventor
  • Sensors & actuators
  • Calibration
  • Root-cause analysis

Four years at LACVIS Nigeria, which runs computerised vehicle inspection centres in Lagos.

Problem

Inspection results stand or fall with test rigs that measure accurately and keep running under heavy daily use.

What I did

Designed rig components in 3D CAD, selected sensors, actuators and measurement hardware, commissioned and calibrated rigs on site.

Result

Higher rig availability through measurement-based fault finding and design improvements.

Gear Mesh Simulator

  • Spur & helical
  • Bevel & hypoid
  • Worm
  • Planetary
  • Mesh frequency

A browser tool that animates a gear pair with adjustable tooth counts, speed and tooth errors, and lets you see and hear the difference between unlapped and lapped gears.

Problem

Gear noise is easy to measure and hard to explain to non-specialists.

What I did

Built an interactive model with seven gear types, 2D and 3D views, transmission error and an audio preview of the mesh whine.

Result

A teaching and troubleshooting aid that runs in any browser, no install.

Software · Fatigue & failure analysis

fasolver: a Python failure-analysis toolkit

  • Python
  • Fatigue & fracture
  • Crack growth
  • Buckling
  • 40 automated tests

A toolkit that ranks likely failure mechanisms from observations and then runs the strength, fracture and crack-growth checks that confirm or rule them out.

Problem

Failure investigations often jump to a cause before the numbers are checked.

What I did

Wrote 18 mechanism cards and the matching calculations, then re-solved twelve documented failures from 1943 to 2018.

Result

77 of 77 checks agree with the published values. Every formula is covered by a test.

Vibration-based condition monitoring for rotating machinery

  • FFT & PSD
  • Envelope analysis
  • BPFO / BPFI / BSF / FTF
  • Gear mesh & sidebands
  • Python
  • Web app

An independent product I am developing, building on my master's thesis: a web-based tool that turns vibration measurements from spindles, toolholders, bearings and gears into a clear health status for each component. Details on request.

Problem

Vibration data gets recorded, but rarely turned into a decision a maintenance team can act on.

What I did

Designed the signal-processing chain: FFT and PSD, band-pass filtering, Hilbert envelope, bearing and gear fault frequencies, and an automatic report that flags each component.

Result

Faults traced to a physical cause per component, validated on public bearing-fault datasets and real test-bench measurements.
